Join us for a unique, intimate opera concert performed surrounded by art. Special guest soprano Minji Kim from Korea will bring to life the melancholic, romantic atmosphere of the artworks in the Mackelvie Gallery. Narrated by curator Emma Jameson, this performance will take audiences on a journey through the dramatic crescendos and decrescendos of human passion in the 'Love, Longing, Loss' exhibition. With Yun-Pai Hsu on piano and Jucheol Wang on double bass.

Doors open at 7 pm, performance starts at 7:30 pm.

- Soprano/ Minji Kim studied voice from a young age in Korea, followed by an education at The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Italy, one of the oldest musical institutions in the world. She debuted in Teatro Goldoni in Venice, and starred in operas such as La Bohème and Die Zauberflöte. As a soloist, she performed main parts in Rigoletto and Carmen with the National Opera of Korea. Minji Kim has won several international prizes including the Mattia Battistini Opera Competition. She combines performing in Europe, the US and Asia with teaching voice and Italian diction at the Korea National University of Arts and Czech Brno Conservatory.

- Piano/ Yun-Pai Hsu is an acclaimed and award-winning pianist, accompanist and musical teacher. She studied at top-ranked conservatories in the US before she relocated to New Zealand, and has worked as a staff accompanist at the University of Cincinnati, University of Iowa, and the University of Auckland. As a member of the Center for New Music she has been invited to premiere new solo piano works and chamber music throughout America and Russia.

- Double Bass/ Jucheol Wang is a renowned double bass performer, orchestral conductor, and teacher. He has a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting, and both a Master’s and doctorate degree in double bass performance in the US. Wang is the founder and former director of the Seoul Uniss chamber orchestra and served as a jury member for the Vienna International Music Competition in Austria, and Music Journal Competition and Kookmin Ilbo Competition in Korea. Wang is currently the head of music at Rosmini College as well as the music director of Auckland Sinfonietta and the president of The Music Association of Korea in New Zealand.

- Curator/ Emma Jameson has worked as an Assistant Curator for the Historic International and New Zealand collections at the Auckland Art Gallery since January 2016. She is particularly passionate about seventeenth-century Dutch and nineteenth-century British art and loves artworks from these periods for their rich textures and captivating narratives.
